The trial of a 69-year-old man, alleged to have killed an 83-year-old man in Levuka, will begin from June 9 at the High Court in Suva. Jone Durukula appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday charged with one count of murder.

Durukula is accused of hitting Samuel Murarilal’s head and punching him on December 29, 2019, at Beach Street in Levuka.

The deceased died two days after succumbing to the injuries.

State prosecutor Sheenal Swastika told the court that the information and disclosures were filed and served to the defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission.

Justice Goundar adjourned the matter for a final pre-trial conference on May 29. A production order has been issued for Durukula to appear on the next court date.

He has been further remanded in custody.
