The good nature of the Fijians enables them to make a good rugby team. That was the gist of Fiji Airways Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter’s message from an interview with Fiji Rugby Union Media on Tuesday.

Speaking on the need to develop a winning culture within the team, Cotter says, the process involves the quality of human beings involved.

“We’ve to have a sole purpose and then find an identity,” he said.

“This involves common values and that develops trust and cohesion in the team. Good people make a good team.” Cotter pointed out that culturally Fijians have good human values and developing rugby alongside it brings the people together.

“This is going to be exciting,” he added.

Cotter has worked with a number of Fijian players like Nemani Nadolo, Timoci Naqusa, Napolioni Nalaga and Fijian-born All Blacks winger Sitiveni Sivivatu while coaching for Top 14 clubs Clermont and Montpellier in France.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said that Cotter was working from New Zealand due to the coronavirus pandemic travel restrictions.
