FRIEND temporarily closes its food bank applications
The Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises & Development (FRIEND) Fiji has temporarily closed its food bank applications so it can focus on the requests at hand.
FRIEND Fiji set up a foodbank, additionally backed by the European Union, targeting genuinely struggling Fijians during these trying times.
Over the past two weeks, it has assisted about 400 families and is now assessing more requests it received. FRIEND Fiji director Sashi Kiran said: “We have at the moment closed the form while we try and complete the requests because there are too many, so we’ll have 500 more and then we will decide whether we open or not.”
Ms Kiran hoped that those in the formal sector impacted by the COVID-19 period will use the Fiji National Provident Fund aid so that those in desperate need would receive the support they need.
