Four debut in online chess

-

Fiji Chess Federation has named four new players in a six-member Under-20 squad which will represent Fiji in the Asian Junior Online Chess Championship.

Auston Koroi of Gospel High School, Jacquelyn Masilomani of St Joseph Secondary with Makayla Sukhu and Lewis Koroi of Gospel Primary will be making their online international debut tomorrow.

Rudr Prasad, 14, of Jai Narayan College and his younger sister Tanvi Prasad of Deenbandhoo Memorial Primary complete the other two spots in the team.

"World Chess Federation (FIDE) is seriously looking at online championships to meet COVID-19 requirements across the globe," general secretary Goru Arvind said.

"Normally, we would have to spend thousands of dollars to fly our reps to play Asian Junior Chess Championship in Dubai but that changed after online chess came into play."

Fiji's U20 reps will be participating in categories for girls and boys from 10am to 3pm (Fiji Time) in Zone 3.6 which covers Australia, New Zealand and all other Pacific island countries tomorrow.
