Learn get busy: Naiqama tells Silktails

Staying home during the COVID-19 restriction is a good time to learn and grow, says Kaiviti Silktails coach Wes Naiqama.
He made the comment after meeting up with the Easternbased players at the Fiji National Rugby League headquarter in Suva yesterday.
The Kaiviti Silktails started their Ron Massey Cup competition thrashing Windsor Wolves 40-16 before COVID-19 hit Fiji.
Naiqama said a system was in place to keep the players busy throughout the year. “This is a good time to grow, learn and get physical. We need to put them in a good position when they go back to their local league clubs,” he said.
“We’ve created an elite pathway programme that we are running in the West for Nadi and Lautoka boys, one in Sigatoka for the Coral Coast players and one here in Suva.
“Basically, the concept is growing the game across Fiji and getting the boys into the Silktails system.” Naiqama added the team will focus more on training the team and the players rather than preparing for next year’s season.
“We’ve identified 90 players across Fiji so we just wanted to use this time to get them involved in the pathway programme,” he said.
“Normal training week will consist of field session and three gym sessions.”
“The players are all excited in taking part in the programme.”
