Open schools as planned

- NEMANI DELAIBATIKI Feedback: nemani.delaibatiki@fijisun.com.fj

An opinion poll we published yesterday indicated that many people would prefer a return to school on June 16 as planned if we continue the trend of no new COVID-19 cases.

Keeping students at home longer than is necessary, can achieve negative results. While home-based learning has been in force, a dedicated school environment is generally preferred.

Students can lose the focus on their education if the home environment is not conducive to learning because there are distractions and no proper parental guidance and supervision.

We would like to think that given our current low figures, it is safe to send the students back to school. The only other concern is social distancing. Are we able to control it in schools?

If we can do it there is no reason to fear.
