13 killed in landslides in India’s Assam state
New Delhi: At least 13 persons died in landslides in India’s northeastern state of Assam, which were triggered by heavy rains over the past few days, a state government official said on Tuesday.
The deceased included some members of a single family. The landslides were reported from a couple of districts in the state.
“In Cachar district the landslide happened on Tuesday in which seven persons died, and some injured. Six dead bodies have been recovered, and search is on to find the seventh dead body,” said Shamim Lashkar, of the Cachar District Disaster Management Authority.
Meanwhile, local media reports said at least six people died and 10 others were injured in a similar landslide incident in Karimganj district on Tuesday.
