Collaboration key as FSC mill managers gear up for the crush

Mill managers from Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC)’s three mills meet every Tuesday to ensure that all is on track for the impending crushing season.

The Labasa Mill is due to start crushing on 10 June, Rarawai Mill on 23 June and the Lautoka Mill on 24 June.

“Working together is critical to ensuring that the sugar industry is well served throughout the season so that it can positively contribute to the Fijian economy,” FSC chief executive officer Graham Clark said.

“With less than a week left before the crush is set to start in Labasa, the mill managers and their teams are working hard to open on time.”

Labasa Mill

The Labasa Mill, managed by Michael Faktaufon, will be the first mill to start crushing.

“Our team is pulling out all the stops to start the 2020 crush on time,” Mr Faktaufon said.

“Of course, with the current global business environment, this year has presented some challenges for us in terms of procuring parts and equipment from overseas, but the team here in Labasa has worked closely with our Engineering and Procurement team to find solutions to overcome any major challenges to date.”

Plans

In Lautoka, Leela Ramesh is looking forward to opening later in June, as is Taito Kafoa, the mill manager of the Rarawai Mill.

While all mill managers are focused on opening their own mills, they are always keen to lend a hand or provide support to the other mill managers.

“Within these meetings, there’s a clear focus on shared success for a better future,” Mr Clark explained. “There is a strong opportunity here for sugar to support the Fijian economy more than ever before during these unprecedented times, and we firmly believe that collaboration, along with greater efficiencies will stand us through in good stead for the future.”.
