Police are investigating a fake news post that falsely informed that Government would be closing Queen Victoria School in Tailevu. Spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department was looking into the case. Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Rosy Akbar cleared the air and clarified that Queen Victoria School will not close.

“This is absolutely fake news,” she said.

The minister said the false information was being spread by an unsuccessful applicant for the suspended SODELPA party in the 2018 general election.

Ms Akbar has advised the public not to believe in such rumours.

The fake news was posted yesterday claiming that QVS would be closed because the Government had no money to pay for the operational costs of the boarding school.
