He threatened the lives of both my brother and I. This is how Aarav Kris Singh, 10, remembers how a man allegedly tried to kill them last Friday by burning down the house they rented at Lumi Place, Nadawa. He was speaking with the permission of his mother in her presence.

His younger brother, Krishav Aayan Singh is just a year old.

Aarav recalled his mother Kavita Devi, 33, leaving them with the man as she went to work.

He said that the man was behaving strangely.

“He later came back to my room with a hammer in his hand, trying to damage whatever was in his way. I asked him why he had a hammer in his hands and he swung the hammer at me,” he said.

He said the man had hammered the front and back door of the home shut.

“He had gone to the kitchen, turned on the gas cylinder, and started a fire. He grabbed my brother in one hand and his other hand was around my neck,” Aarav said.

“I bit his hand, hit him with my elbow and tried to run away.”

He said that he went to the window and called for help. The three were rescued by neighbours who came to their aid after hearing an explosion.

Aarav said he wouldn’t have been alive if the neighbours.
