Bear with the situation, stranded Indians citizens in Fiji advised
The Indian High Commission has told its citizens stranded in Fiji to bear with the current situation.
Six Indian nationals made a request to this newspaper to highlight the urgency to return home as they were running out of funds. Nandeep Jayesh Tailor, came to Fiji on a visitor’s visa on March 3. He said their visa expires this month and was worried they would have to pay for an extension.
He said they had insufficient funds to continue with their accommodation.
“How can we survive here in Fiji? We already are paying our rent. We don’t know how we are going to pay for next month because we don’t have enough,” he said.
“Almost 34 people are stuck in Fiji and there is no response from the authorities we have contacted including the Indian High Commission in Fiji,” he added.
Meanwhile the Indian High Commission in Fiji Second Secretary, Sukanta Charan Sahoo said there were many stranded Indian nationals all over the Pacific including Australia and New Zealand who wanted to go back to India.
He said those stranded in Fiji need to transit Australia and they would need an Australian visa.
“There are no flights here to Australia and there are so many factors to go from one place to another place,” he said.
“No airline is able to fly their aircraft for a handful of people, it is a financial havoc for them.”
