International trade is always two a way process.

If the Canton Fair mainly focuses on selling, China International Import Expo (CIIE) would be on mainly buying.

The third expo will take place from November 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China. The Chinese Embassy in Suva has confirmed that Fiji will be participating.

An Embassy statement said: “It is a very effective platform for companies to expand their businesses in the Chinese mainland market and beyond.

“Fiji has confirmed to participate this significant event for the third year in a row.

“We are confident that characteristic Fijian products would continue to attract Chinese buyers.”

Global companies participating

According to the organisers more than 50 global companies signed up for the event during a ceremony that took place both offline and online on May 15.

The global companies that confirmed their participation are mainly from the United States, Japan, Germany, France and Italy.

They include renowned companies from the US such as General

Electric, Pfizer and Estée Lauder. The expo serves as the platform for international procurement, investment promotion, cultural exchange, and opening-up and cooperation.

“It also offers platinum opportunities for foreign countries and foreign enterprises and service providers to showcase themselves and to introduce their products to the Chinese market.

“For this reason, the last two sessions of the CIIE were totally successful and it has made strong inroads in attracting exhibitors and visitors,” the Embassy said.

Exhibition area

According to the CIIE Bureau, more than 80 per cent of the planned exhibition area has been booked by exhibitors this year. “Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, to successfully host the third CIIE shows China’s crucial role and responsibility in restoring the global economy.

“The preparation work is going smoothly despite the pandemic. “The CIIE will feature a public health and epidemic prevention exhibition area in the Medical Equipment and Health-care Products Exhibition Hall.” Meanwhile, the Automobile Exhibition will showcase products related to smart transportation while the Trade in Services Exhibition will highlight the tech behind international trade.

The Food and Agricultural Products and Consumer Goods sections will display the latest trends in lifestyle products.

The Chinese market is still strong and important to overseas companies, and that it always provides inspiration and drives brands to innovate.
