The Nausori Town Council is taking precautionary measures despite the announcement last week that Fiji was COVID-19 free.

Council workers on Sunday took advantage of the empty streets and the limited number of commuters to clean the bus stand.

Nausori/Nasinu special administrator, Uma Kant Patel said members of the public should be reminded that the COVID-19 pandemic was not over yet.

“We need to continue to keep ourselves healthy, continuously wash our hands, maintain social distancing, not to touch one’s ear, nose and face.

“Most importantly keep our environment clean.”

He said the council would continue to wash the bus stand and market as and when required.

This was usually done every three months.

“We have noticed that people’s behaviour remain very casual.”

Mr Patel said the recent outbreak of LTDD (Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue and Diarrhea) haven’t stopped people from littering.

“Various illegal, improper dumping still continue. People still take out rubbish on roadsides after the pick-up truck has left, leaving rubbish to be scavenged by stray dogs.

“We definitely lack civic pride, however, we won’t give up the fight until we see our town is clean and people take ownership.”
