Construction has resumed at Yue Lai Hotel in Flagstaff after the Suva City Council lifted a stop work order.

The stop work order was issued in April.

Owner of the hotel Fagang Zhao said issues concerning fire hazard were resolved which allowed construction of the $25 million hotel to resume. A total of 30 workers are expected to return to work following the recent development, although workers will be working in clusters of a maximum of 20 people, he said.

Work on the hotel commenced over a year ago and is expected to be completed by February 2021 at the latest, Me Zhao said.

The hotel was originally Scotts Restaurant before it changed hands several times to become Yue Lai.

It feature 24 apartments, 76 bedrooms, three restaurants, and a karaoke bar where the former Scandals bar was located. The hotel will also host conferences and weddings.

“At the moment, Suva’s hotel rates are very expensive,” Mr Zhao said.

“Yue Lai Hotel will address that by offering competitive rates.”

The hotel expects to employ 80 to 90 local workers when it opens.
