Farmer cops three years imprisonment for sexual relations with secondary school student
A 35-year-old farmer who had pleaded guilty of having a sexual relationship with a secondary school student has been handed a jail term of three years.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne, while sentencing the farmer yesterday, said in 2012, the farmer was sentenced for defilement and served 26 months imprisonment.
When these offences were committed the victim was only 14 years old and the offender was 34 years old, putting a significant age difference between the two parties. Accordingly the man was sentenced to three years imprisonment with a nonparole period of two and half years.
