Williams and Gosling chief executive officer (CEO) Eddie Yuen has confirmed that under the company’s agency two calls were made on a monthly cargo inducement basis.

Mr Yuen said Williams and Gosling were shipping agents; they do not own any vessels servicing the Pacific.

“Williams and Gosling act as ship agents; we do not have vessels servicing the Pacific. However, under our agency we look after Matson Shipping,” Mr Yuen said.

He said Matson South Pacific Limited (MSPL) operated vessels that service the Pacific Islands on a fortnightly rotational basis.

“The ports the vessels call into include Suva, Lautoka, Nukualofa, Apia, Rarotonga and Niue,” he said. The four MSPL container vessels that visit the ports of Lautoka and Suva are Liloa II, Island Chief, Capitaine Dampier and Capitaine Quiros.

General cargo carrying ships Liloa II and Island Chief for their Fiji to New Zealand trips usually call into Lautoka first before coming to Suva and then for Auckland. The trips now skip calling into Tauranga.
