Nadi city

- Ronnie Chang, Nadi

Will Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar please take a moment, for the people of greater Nadi and confirm if the following provisions have been made:

(1) Cemetery

(2) Correctional services to bury our dead (3) Properly maintained to preserve our final resting place

(4) Garbage dump for Nadi.

Now that the announcement has been made for the proclamation of Jetset Nadi to city status, come October 2020, I repeat, yet once again, the above are absolute pre-requisites prior to Nadi finally attaining elevation to city status. These are paramount necessities. My several write-up and humble request for Government given cemetery after the death and burial at Enamanu Cemetery of the late PS - Sugar, VANIQI has not been responded to, to date.

For the record, both the President and Prime Minister attended this funeral. Enamanu Cemetery is almost full and bursting at its seams, in places.

Some sections are a poor sight. No authority, municipal or State, takes any initiative properly maintain our final resting place, or what remains of it.

It costs us anything up to $400 to engage burial services for our deceased loved ones. For all official records, Enamanu Cemetery was a gift to all the people of Nadi, by the late Colonial long time resident, Ferrier-Watson some 80 years ago. Her generous memory must be preserved, at all cost and respect.

Prior to the official proclamation to city status, come October 2020, I plead with Ms Kumar to officially inspect the sad state of Enamanu Cemetery with our municipal fathers including newly-appointed Nadi Town

Council CEO, Craig Powell and Special Administrator, Debra Sadranu.

Nadi desperately needs all the above to be addressed for the benefit of all future generations.

As a “kai Nadi” who cares, I make my fervent request, once again. Please grant us a favourably positive response, at your earliest possible opportunity.

To conclude, I will stand corrected if the above pertinent issues have been officially addressed.
