Fijiana XVs coach wants fitness test
Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata plans to conduct a fitness test for players as soon as all restrictions are lifted.
Doviverata will also keep track of the players’ performances during the Vodafone Vanua Championship and the Skipper Cup Premiership.
Most of the squad members play for their provincial teams, including veteran Rusila Nagasau, Mere Moto, Ana Roqica, Lavenia Tinai and Laisa Taga.
He said the provincial competitions and some weekend camps should give the players enough game time despite the three-month restrictions and lockdown.
All these games and competitions are planned for their build-up towards the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in October next year.
“Fitness test first, for the players in the squad and we will monitor them in the Skipper Cup competititon,” he said.
“There are a few overseas players who have shown their interest. They will be contacted when all the restrictions are lifted. They have to come over and be with the team.”
Doviverata said, apart from overseas-based players, he would also be looking at the other local players who are interested to be part of the squad.
The ninth Women’s RWC will be held in Auckland, New Zealand from September 18 to October 16, next year.
