Court orders psychiatric evaluation

A man charged with one count of arson and two counts of attempted murder has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Pranil Alvin Singh, 33, appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

The court heard that it was Singh’s second attempt to harm himself, and that he was a former outpatient of St Giles Hospital.

Justice Goundar ordered that a psychiatric evaluation be filed in the next 28 days.

The case was adjourned to July 10.
