Awater project is set to provide more than 30 households with access to safe drinking water. The project was commissioned by the Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Disaster Management, Rural and Maritime Development, Inia Seruiratu, at Nagigi, Number 8, in Labasa yesterday. Mr Seruiratu said water is a basic need and extending its availability is consistent with Government on looking after every Fijian.

“We all need to have good water drinking sources, so the people in the rural areas are not exempted from this,” Mr Seruiratu said.

“We’re thankful that through Government’s assistance and self-help in the allocation given to rural development we’re able to fund this project.”

Meanwhile, a villager, 29-year old Anal Anish Raj, said the community was thankful for Government’s assistance with a new water pump that was policies worth more than $5000. Mr Raj said the community had faced water shortages since before he was born.

“We solely relied on a limited catchment or a well before and sometimes there was no water for a few days. Now we will have access to clean and safe drinking water 24/7,” Mr Raj said. Mr Seruiratu also commissioned a water project at Mataniwai worth more than $16,000.
