Create your own legacy: Seruiratu to Civil Service Heads

-

The Heads of Departments (HODs) of various Government ministries and organisations were yesterday reminded of their role as agents of change to the communities they serve.

Speaking during a meetings with HODs and senior Government officials in the Northern Division at the Commissioner Northern Division’s Office in Labasa, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu, said civil servants must change and improve the way they deliver their service. He said if this was to happen, change must happen within each organisation.

“Transformation is about change. We need to change. Again I want to emphasise that change must start from within,” Mr Seruiratu said.

“We must change so you can change your organisation, so you change the community or the ministry you are here to serve. It begins with you. “Change must start with you first. You must create your own legacy.”

Mr Seruiratu told HODs and government officials that if one was to make change, one must see things differently.

“One day I’ll be gone as Minister for this ministry then one day all the good and bad things relating to how I serve, that will be my legacy.

“We have to change for the betterment of Vanua Levu and Fiji. That’s the change we all want.” He said Government wants to get people out of poverty so the way “we do development must also change”.

Mr Seruiratu was also joined by Minister for Health, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, and Minister for Lands, Jone Usamate, during his meeting with the HODs.

The three Cabinet Ministers are on a three-day tour of the Northern Division.
