The night market in Nadi has given hope to a handicraft vendor, Ashika Karan. The 40-year-old is operating a stall at the Nadi Handicraft Centre, to help support the family.

The mother of two said during the current pandemic the handicraft vendors had been greatly affected because their business only runs well with tourists coming into the country.

“During this COVID-19 crisis it is hard for us, especially the handicraft vendors. We are getting no business without tourists, but we still need to survive and make money to pay our bills and help put food on the table,” Mrs Karan said.

She said she was grateful for the innovative ideas from the Nadi Town Council chief executive officer, Craig Powell for initiating ways to help the vendors succeed with their business.

“I am thankful to the council CEO, Mr Powell for implementing some good ideas to help the people of Nadi, who have been affected by this pandemic crisis, to succeed with our business despite the crisis,” Mrs Karan added.

Meanwhile, CEO Powell said the Nadi Night Market was to support the Local Handicraft Market Vendors.

The Nadi Night Market first started last Saturday. It opens every Monday to Saturday from 5pm to 8:30pm.
