The Ministry of Youth and Sports will soon launch a partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture that will see youths become more engaged in the agriculture sector.

Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Parveen Bala said this during a tour and brief meeting at the Nasau Youth Training Centre in Sigatoka on Monday.

He said there was a need to involve youths in agriculture, more so at such a critical time given the COVID-19 crisis.

He added that programmes were available to steer the youths in this direction.

“We have to review our plans. We have to see new ways and means of how we can engage our youths in these environment so most of the areas visited youths are very much interested in doing farming, basically they are unemployed, not only vegetable farming but in others as well,” the Minister said.

Mr Bala said given that Nasau Centre was closed there was aabundance of land availability which could be utilised well.

“We are going to engage the nearby youth clubs to farm at Nasau. The reason why we want to engage unemployed youths is because the training centre is closed at this point in time so there will be involved in planning and to look after the pig and chicken farm,” he said.
