Blues captain seals new deal with NZR
Auckland: Lock Patrick Tuipulotu has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby (NZR) through the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
The 27-year-old has played 30 tests for the All Blacks since his debut in 2014 and is keen to keep the momentum of a stand-out 2019 international campaign going. Tuipulotu impressed during last year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan, establishing himself as one of the All Blacks’ premier locking options. As captain, he’s also played a key role in leading the Blues through their best Super Rugby campaign in years.
“During the lockdown, I realised, more than ever, how much I love this game and love playing for the Blues,” says Tuipulotu.
“We are beginning to develop into a really good side and it is an honour to lead them. I am still young and learning all the time, and I want to establish myself as an international player.”
All Blacks coach Ian Foster calls the news “fantastic” for NZ Rugby. “Patrick has grown considerably over the last few years, both on the field as a player, and off field with his captaincy and leadership,” Foster said. -
