FICAC appeals acquittal of Vasu, Kunatuba
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has filed an appeal against the acquittal of former Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Ifereimi Vasu and former acting Deputy Commissioner for Fiji Corrections Service Peniasi Kurivitu Kunatuba.
Vasu and Kunatuba had faced corruption related charges.
They were each charged with one count of abuse of office by FICAC and acquitted accordingly by the High Court in Suva after a trial. Vasu and Kunatuba appeared before Justice Chandana Prematilaka at the Fiji Court of Appeal yesterday. Filimoni Vosarogo represented Vasu while Kunatuba was represented by Vani Ravono.
Justice Prematilaka gave instructions to FICAC to file their written submissions by July 22.
The respondents’ lawyers, Mr Vosarogo and Ms Ravono, were given time until August 19 to file their written submissions.
The case was adjourned to August 19 for mention.
