Phase 2 works on Govind Park to start soon, assures minister
The Phase One project at the revamp of Govind Park in Ba has been completed, says Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar.
She said that there is no work commencing at this point in time but works on the Phase Two is going to start in the coming months. “The work at Govind Park is on hold at the moment because the first phase has been completed,” she said.
Kumar said there were two phases – phase one was the stadium and phase two includes the preparations of the ground, electrical works (lights) fencing, and car park.
She added there projected for this completion.
“Well, with the COVID-19 pandemic we just all have to wait for the (national) budget announcement and hope we will be able to complete the project,” she added.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yuis no timeline project on its suf said the 2020 Courts Interdisrict Championship was scheduled to be played at Govind Park later in the year but now they have moved it to the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
“In January or February, the Ba Town Council had advised us that the ground will not be ready.” However, Yusuf has urged the Ba football fans to bear with them on the delay as Fiji FA still has plans to stage more tournaments there.
