Koroipita Families Benefit From Food Bank
Twenty cartons of food rations were handed over to the founder of the Koroipita Model Town yesterday, Peter Drysdale.
The food rations which was part of the Veilomani Food Bank initiative was handed over to Mr Drysdale by the Minister for Local Government,
Housing and Community Development, Premila Kumar after touring Koroipita.
The food rations will be distributed among the families residing at Koroipita.
To date, the Veilomani Food Bank has received a total of 3200 applications for food rations where 2481 applications were from the Western Division. A total number of 300 food packs have been distributed to different families so far. Meanwhile, Ms Kumar who was on tour in the Western Division since Thursday, said her purpose for the tour was to see firsthand some of the Public Rental Board (PRB) flats, the projects undertaken by the Housing Authority as well as the flats constructed by the PRB.
She also spoke to a number of residents and discussed a number of issues with them.
“I also discussed the policies that we intend to use in allocating lots and I clearly explained to them that if you are living in an informal settlement we understand your urgency of obtaining a lease but the process takes time,” she said.
