Koroipita Fam­i­lies Ben­e­fit From Food Bank

Twenty car­tons of food ra­tions were handed over to the founder of the Koroipita Model Town yes­ter­day, Peter Drys­dale.

The food ra­tions which was part of the Veilo­mani Food Bank ini­tia­tive was handed over to Mr Drys­dale by the Min­is­ter for Lo­cal Govern­ment,

Hous­ing and Com­mu­nity De­vel­op­ment, Premila Ku­mar af­ter tour­ing Koroipita.

The food ra­tions will be dis­trib­uted among the fam­i­lies re­sid­ing at Koroipita.

To date, the Veilo­mani Food Bank has re­ceived a to­tal of 3200 ap­pli­ca­tions for food ra­tions where 2481 ap­pli­ca­tions were from the West­ern Di­vi­sion. A to­tal num­ber of 300 food packs have been dis­trib­uted to dif­fer­ent fam­i­lies so far. Mean­while, Ms Ku­mar who was on tour in the West­ern Di­vi­sion since Thurs­day, said her pur­pose for the tour was to see first­hand some of the Pub­lic Rental Board (PRB) flats, the projects un­der­taken by the Hous­ing Au­thor­ity as well as the flats con­structed by the PRB.

She also spoke to a num­ber of res­i­dents and dis­cussed a num­ber of is­sues with them.

“I also dis­cussed the poli­cies that we in­tend to use in al­lo­cat­ing lots and I clearly ex­plained to them that if you are liv­ing in an in­for­mal set­tle­ment we un­der­stand your ur­gency of ob­tain­ing a lease but the process takes time,” she said.
