China’s Xin­jiang lifts nearly 3m res­i­dents out of poverty

Urumqi: Nearly three mil­lion res­i­dents were lifted out of poverty in north­west China’s Xin­jiang Uygur Au­ton­o­mous Re­gion from 2014 to 2019, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties said.

A to­tal of 737,000 house­holds, or more than 2.92 mil­lion res­i­dents, cast off poverty in the re­gion dur­ing the pe­riod, with the poverty rate de­creas­ing to 1.24 per cent from 19.4 per cent in 2013, ac­cord­ing to the in­for­ma­tion of­fice of the re­gional govern­ment.
