FICAC APPEALS MAHARAJ NO-CASE-TO-ANSWER RULING, ACQUITTAL

- ASHNA KUMAR

The Fiji Independent Commission

Against Corruption (FICAC) has appealed against the no case to answer ruling and acquittal of former CEO of the then Fiji Commerce Commission, Bobby Maharaj. Maharaj appeared at the High Court in Suva before Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday.

Maharaj was charged with one count of abuse of office by FICAC.

On the grounds of appeal by FICAC, it stated that the learned Magistrate erred in fact and law by failing to analyse the evidence objectively in its entirety.

FICAC counsel Sera Fatafehi told the court that the appeal was filed within the time and sought time for the records.

The matter will be called on July 30 for mention.
