Man pleads not guilty to mur­der­ing wife

A28-year-old man who is fac­ing a charge of mur­der­ing his wife has pleaded not guilty. Jo­se­vata Were­lali Koroi ap­peared be­fore Judge Jus­tice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva yes­ter­day.

It is al­leged that Koroi mur­dered his 28-year-old wife, Adi Waidru at Naqara, Waima, in Vu­nidawa, Naitasiri, on May 1, 2020.

The sub­stan­tive mat­ter was ad­journed for the State pros­e­cu­tion to pro­vide their case the­ory and ev­i­dence in sup­port of the­ory.

In the bail mat­ter, State prose­cu­tor from the Of­fice of the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Yo­gesh Prasad told the court that the State had re­ceived the bail ap­pli­ca­tion.

He told the court that the state re­quired time to file their re­sponse as he would have to speak with the in­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer to ob­tain the sta­tus of the ac­cused’s chil­dren who were at their home in Naitasiri and the wel­fare of the chil­dren. The mat­ter will be called on July 17.
