Convicted wife mur­derer’s ap­peal ad­journed

Jus­tice Chan­dana Pre­mati­laka has ad­journed the case of a 39-yearold convicted mur­derer to Au­gust hear­ing date. Venk­tesh Per­mal Goundar ap­peared in the Fiji Court of Ap­peal yes­ter­day rep­re­sented by lawyer, Sunil Go­saiy, on the in­struc­tions of Fazi­lat Shah Le­gal.

He was convicted and sen­tenced for one count of mur­der in April 2018 by the High Court in Suva. Goundar was handed a manda­tory life im­pris­on­ment for mur­der­ing his 25-year-old wife in 2015. He was or­dered to serve a min­i­mum prison term of 18 years be­fore pa­role could be con­sid­ered. to fix a

He had pleaded guilty to the mur­der of his 33-yearold de facto part­ner, Lave­nia Ra­dini­tavea.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred on May 1, 2016, at a Suva apart­ment where Hicks was a driver and the de­ceased was a re­cep­tion­ist.

Hicks had filed eight grounds of ap­peal for con­vic­tion and five grounds of ap­peal against his sen­tence.
