Convicted wife murderer’s appeal adjourned

Justice Chandana Prematilak­a has adjourned the case of a 39-yearold convicted murderer to August hearing date. Venktesh Permal Goundar appeared in the Fiji Court of Appeal yesterday represente­d by lawyer, Sunil Gosaiy, on the instructio­ns of Fazilat Shah Legal.

He was convicted and sentenced for one count of murder in April 2018 by the High Court in Suva. Goundar was handed a mandatory life imprisonme­nt for murdering his 25-year-old wife in 2015. He was ordered to serve a minimum prison term of 18 years before parole could be considered. to fix a

President.

He had pleaded guilty to the murder of his 33-yearold de facto partner, Lavenia Radinitave­a.

The incident occurred on May 1, 2016, at a Suva apartment where Hicks was a driver and the deceased was a receptioni­st.

Hicks had filed eight grounds of appeal for conviction and five grounds of appeal against his sentence.
