World View

Reference is made to an article titled: “World View” in Fiji Sun of 23/6/20 by one Dorsami Naidu. I must say that I beg to disagree with his assertions vis-a-vis the dominance of British Empire initially and the United States of America after the Second World War.

This is very simplistic and a naive view in relation to the emergence of China in the 21st century. He asserts that the Western world cannot stomach the rise of China as a world power vis-a-vis Huawei and 5G technology.

However, in the passing he says that China’s governance is not so transparent. The writer is clearly ignorant of the values and ideologies of liberal democracies and Chinese Communism. British Empire gave the world liberal democracy, the form of governance in which the voices of the people are heard. It is the government of the people, by the people and for the people.

The USA too is the most powerful democracy in the world. hence the people are openly able to demonstrate that “Black Lives Matter”. Whereas China is a one party government and no opposition is tolerated...remember how Tienamen Square uprising was crushed?...or Mao Tse Tung’s long march in which thousands perished! Today China has become the manufacturing hub or the world because it has effectively exploited the loop holes in democracy.
