Ahead on collision involving an EMS van and a private carrier truck at Nacilau Point in Rakiraki yesterday morning landed two people at the Rakiraki Hospital.

The carrier was travelling towards Tavua when it allegedly tried to overtake a cane truck at a blind corner.

This caused the oncoming EMS van to swerve resulting in a head collision of the two vehicles.

The driver and passenger of the truck sustained injuries.

The driver of the EMS van, Joji Titoko, said: “I have been driving since 2005 and have never experienced an accident.

“By when I was able to see the truck overtaking a cane truck, I tried to move aside to let him pass.

“He must have lost control because he swerved in my direction but it was too late.” Mr Titoko said he was grateful to have survived the accident.

Cane truck driver Satish Ram said he hit the brakes and it was fortunate his truck did not hit both of the vehicles.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident occurred about 9.30am.
