The crushing season for the Lautoka Sugar Mill was delayed, and would more likely happen next week. The mill was to have started crushing on Wednesday, but this was put off as a technical glitch forced the delay.

Fiji Sugar Corporation chief executive officer Graham Clark said it was unfortunate that a technical issue at the mill happened during pre-opening tests on Tuesday night. Mr Clark said all engineering works were being carried out, and he could not see the mill starting this week.

“Our team is working around the clock to fix a boiler issue that occurred during our pre-opening tests and we’ll be able to announce a firmer opening date for the Lautoka Mill soon.”

Some sugar cane harvested for the Lautoka Mill area earlier this week have been transported to the Rarawai Mill in Ba which opening its crushing season on Tuesday.
