Fiji to host Oceania Swimming event in 2021
Fiji Swimming has been given the thumbs up to host the XIII Oceania Swimming Championships in Suva next year.
The event will determine the qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics Games in Japan, which is from July 23 to August 8, 2021. Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova said the competition would be great for the country.
“Oceania Swimming has come back to us, giving us the green light to host the competition, which is now moved to next year,” Rova said.
“We are looking to host the championship from the 21st to the 27th of June 2021.
“We have notified the Fiji National Sports Commission that we have been given the thumbs up.
“We are just hoping for the best that everything clears and who knows it might be one of the biggest tournaments for next year. “It will be an Olympic qualifying event, but it will also one of the very last qualifying events for next year.
“It will be a great event for Fiji Swimming and also for the country because it will be regarded as an Olympic Games qualifier.” With the ease on the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions by the Government and the return of many sporting events, Rova said Fiji Swimming have started training programme with certified coaches and trainers.
“Even though the restrictions are lifted by the Government there are still some rules that should be followed,” he said.
