home.”

Ms Marletta highlighted that they have been very supportive of the Government initiatives.

With the talks of the Trans Tasman bubble, Bula bubble, Melanesia bubble, she says it was positive initiative from Government to initiate the different bubbles that are going to increase the economy of Fiji,

“We’re very supportive of the government’s initiatives and we look forward to working closely with them to make this happen. Ms Marletta was also at the recent budget consultations led by the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum at the Civic Centre in Nadi past Thursday.

“Another great initiative by the Government to get all the tourism industry in the business houses in Nadi together to listen to the panel. with the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Dr James Fong.

“It was a consultation to discuss and then to share our views as well in a question and answer session, it was a very interesting discussion.

“I came out feeling very confident and excited about what the future holds for Fiji in the tourism industry.

Specials

“We had some really fantastic local specials so we’ve been doing flash sales, which come out every month for selected dates only.

“And now weekend, the local market has really started to pick up.

“We’ve always had a very strong presence in the local market with conferencing and weddings and residence specials.

“So we’re really trying to focus more on that now. We’ve got a flash sale coming up for the first two weekends in July of $99.”

The spa is currently closed but its staff has been delegated to do other duties in the resort.

She says: “Other activities are open, from the pool, kayaking and other outdoor sports.”

In terms of international packages, she says: “We’ve already decided to put out some international packages throughout OTAS and wholesalers worldwide for mid 2021 and further into 2022 as well.

“So more packages that they can come and relax with spa packages and then we’re doing more adventurous or more activity packages for the people that have been staying home for so long, they want to get out and they want to do something and experience what Fiji has to offer.

“We’ve put together some really great activity packages also.”

Tourism market

In terms of the traditional tourism market share, she says Australia, New Zealand held the major market share for the country.

“For us, our largest market was the US market. So we host a lot of film productions teams here and do a lot of dive packages and dive groups as well from the US.

“So what we’re going to try and focus on and rebuild is that US market as well.

“With the new initiatives the Prime Minister announced on Sunday with welcoming the production companies back into the country with their measurements in place, we look forward to, to really tapping into that and getting our productions back again. “We’ve actually already had two production companies reach out, wanting to come in August, and film in Fiji from the US so that’s positive.”

Long term tourism plan

Ms Marletta said the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 has brought the world to a standstill, and tourism has been the worst affected of all major economic sectors.

“It is the age of adaptivity!

“We are making revisions and adaptations to sales and marketing plans, now to accommodate the immediate needs of the next 18 months. The pandemic has inspired people to help others.

“The feeling of community and connection is very important.

“Look out for each other and help those less fortunate within the community.”
