Get into game shape, fitness key

- ASUAD ALI Edited by Osea Bola

The Vodafone Premier Football League returns in three weeks’ time.

But can the districts possibly keep a settled team for the rest of the season?

What is that special formula that could help the players get into game shape.

The 90-day downtime, due to the outbreak of coronavirus and the immediate suspension of all sports begs the question on the players’ health and safety.

The three-week preparation for the 90minute competitive restart is scant even with the new five substitution rotation.

If anything, and considering the layoffs from regular trainings, the players should’ve been given at least a month or more to return to football.

Simply put, football is a game of fitness, so it is important to be in the best shape.

Football, like other high energy churning sports is not all about the ‘Pie in the Sky’.

For the 90-minute game, fitness is the winner.

It allows players to do things that will benefit both, them and the team.

It also draws energy, enthusiasm, and help change the dynamic of the game.

It could mean either closing a game out or creating a spark to help change momentum, it also helps with your first touches.

Fitness helps conserve your energy to use it for running, passing, shooting, and tackling.

When you are truly fit to play football, you will be able to constantly talk and give your teammates information throughout the whole game.

But the lack of it, could have players lose focus and incur serious injuries.

It also breaks the body and mind coordination and jeopardizes performance.

For the beautiful game is all about fitness, strength and conditioning.

And a good measure of thought must be given for the greater good of the sport to be the winner.
