Trial dates set for man charged with robbery

Trial for a Suva man facing robbery charges has been set for September 21 to September 25.

Sekove Vadei appeared before Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva yesterday charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

It is alleged that Vadei between 2am and 3am on November 16, 2018, at Lami, with two others, entered into a house of the complainan­t and dishonestl­y appropriat­ed various items.

State prosecutor Wakesa Elo told the court that the accused was allegedly apprehende­d by the Police while running away from the complainan­t’s house to a nearby park to escape.

Ms Elo informed the court at the time of the arrest, items belonging to the complainan­t were allegedly found in the accused’s possession. Defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission, Namrata Mishra, told the court that the defence had filed a notice of alibi and were awaiting the statement of the same.

The court heard that the defence were awaiting the voir dire disclosure­s to which Ms Elo sought time for.

Vadei was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to August 7.
