High Court convicts man for rape

The High Court in Lautoka has convicted a man for raping and attempting to rape his niece.

Justice Sunil Sharma in his judgment dated June 15, 2020, said the court was of the view that the accused between October 1, 2012 and October 31, 2012, had forceful sexual intercourse with the complainant, a child under the age of 13 years. He also said the court was of the view that the accused between March 1, 2013 and March 31, 2013, attempted to have sexual intercourse with the complainant.

The complaint was 12 years old in 2012 and the accused was her maternal uncle living with the complainant and her family.

Justice Sharma convicted the accused for one representative count of rape and one representative count of attempt to commit rape.
