We’ll Help! Teachers to assist students

As primary schools are set to begin next week, Suva Primary School teachers have started looking at ways in which they can assist their students.

The school has a roll of 358 students. Teachers have begun collecting information from parents that can help them determine the number of students needing assistance for stationaries, lunch and other basic school needs. Head Teacher Brij Singh said talks were also ongoing with the school board in ways they could assist.

“We understand that many parents are struggling as a result of the pandemic,” he said.

Mr Singh said the teachers were also advised not to pressure their students with school work.

“From next week we will be carrying out remedial works with the children.”

He said they had also implemented strict measures for those intending premises.

“There will be a pick up and drop off zone for parents to drop and pick their children and we will not allow anyone to enter the school premises anyhow. “Another new thing we will be implementing is that not all classes will have their standard breaks as one, we will be allocating two classes during a break, and there will be different recess time allocations for classes to avoid crowding in the school canteen and in the school compound.”

Mr Singh said hand soap dispensers had been installed around the school.

“Right now we are working on creating posters that students will be attracted to in order to adhere to health measures put in place by the Ministry of Health,” he said. “This would help students understand the importance of hand washing, social distancing and health and hygiene.” to enter the school
