Handicap unfriendly

-

I had a bad experience on Tuesday. I went to the FNPF Plaza and got off at the large entrance on the side of building. I was on my way to the LTA office.

It was convenient for me because I was using a walker. I had an accident and suffered a broken leg. I also use a wheelchair and I did not have to climb up the steps. Getting close to the entrance, we noticed a big chain and padlock from the building inside. I had to go back and around to use the other side entrance.

It was tiring for me going all that way using the walker and I began to feel tired. Tried to sit down to rest my arms, but the side was wet and no rest for the tired hands. By this time my hands were shaking.

I needed to climb up the stairs, so I asked two gentlemen to help me get up the stairs. I was fortunate and thankful for the assistance from the two men.

We entered the building and I made a beeline for the LTA office, where I took a very much needed rest on the chairs outside the LTA office. I was exhausted and my hands were very tired.

My girl hinted we should have brought the wheelchair, but I told her it would not have made any difference because it was not handicap-friendly at all entering the building. Whoever gave instructions to have that side door locked and bolted down never gave thought to the fact that it was the only entrance that was friendly for handicap people. Maybe they should consider opening this door or build a ramp at the side to accommodate the handicap people.

I only hope this is not too much to ask of the chief executive of FNPF Plaza.
