FUTURE CANOE PADDLERS LEARN ABOUT WATER SAFETY

-

Youths in the Central Division who were interested in Outrigger Canoeing attended the Water Safety Workshop at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, yesterday.

A senior official confirmed that more than 25 youths from the Vatuwaqa, Raiwaqa and Muanikau areas took part.

Urban Youth Central Sports development officer Saula Koroi, said the programme would help youths when they were out at sea paddling.

“Water safety is important to us and our youths, especially when they go out to rough sea. They should understand and know how to survive in any situation,” Koroi said.

“Before they go for pedalling first they have to understand the importance of water safety and that is why we are running four workshops to help our youths.

“We invited these kids because we believe in their potential and the talent they have in paddling. We are working closely with Fiji Outrigger Canoeing, Fiji Swimming along with the Fiji Sports Council that are facilitating these programmes.” >Simione Haravanua
