Seven-year-old Anika Prakash is ready to go back to school on Monday. Anika was accompanied by her parents and grandmother to buy her new sets of school uniform in the capital city on Wednesday.

Anika is a Year Two student of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Primary School, Suva.

Anika’s mother Anashuma Prasad said they were in the city to buy two sets of uniform for her daughter at CK Ezy Buy in Suva.

“Anika’s old uniform can’t fit her because she has grown out of her size during this pandemic,” Ms Prasad said.

She said they were excited that school was starting soon.

Years 12 and 13 had resumed school on June 30 while the rest, starting from kindergarten to Year 11 resume on Monday, July 6.

“My daughter was really happy as soon we told her that she will start school again next Monday,” Ms Prasad said.

“Anika’s education was affected, and it was very hard to get her study at home, mostly when we are around. In the school environment it’s easier for them to study.”

Ms Prasad, a nurse at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) said it was not easy sending her daughter to school following the long break. “I’m happy now that Fiji is coronavirus free, I feel safe sending my daughter back to school.”

She said her daughter has forgotten a lot of school work during this long break.

Ms Prasad, a nurse at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) said it was not easy sending her daughter to school following the long break.

Ms Prasad is hopeful teachers will assist Anika because she is always eager about returning to school to meet her friends and teachers.

“While she was at home, her grandma was helping her with her assignments and worksheets,” she said.

“The break has been long and she has grown. Going back to school now we need to buy her new uniform, undergarments and shoes.”

She said Anika has completed all her worksheets they had downloaded from the Ministry of Education website.

“We are all now looking forward to see how she would perform this new school term,” Ms Prasad said.

“Anika had performed well at Year One last year, and we’re hoping that she’ll catch up again with her school work.”

Anika said she was happy to go back to school because she’ll meet her best friends Ashika and Avi.
