6,000 nurses to benefit
Six thousand nurses in 14 countries across the Pacific will benefit from the new “Health Care on Air” programme launched by the Ministry of Health yesterday. Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the initiative would benefit nurses especially with the surge and re-emergence of diseases in the region. “The initiative comes at a better time for Fiji as Government, through the ministry, plans to embark on a remodelling exercise of all our services,” he said.
United Nations International Children’s Fund Pacific Representative Sheldon Yett said they hoped to reach out to the most remote frontline health workers by delivering a distance education programme using radio and other communication platforms.
