Vakarisi remanded again

- ASHNA KUMAR Edited by Ivamere Nataro Jone Vakarisi outside Court. Feedback:

The High Court in Suva has further remanded Nabua man, Jone Vakarisi. Vakarisi appeared before Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday charged with 3 counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, one count act with intent to cause grievous harm, one count of breach of bail and one count of breach of suspended sentence.

It is alleged that Vakarisi committed the alleged offences between May 29 and June 5 at Nabua, Suva.

The alleged victim is his 28-year-old wife.

State prosecutor Sadaf Shameem filed and served the court and the accused with information and disclosures.

Vakarisi told the court that he had applied for legal representation to the Legal Aid

Commission.

He also told the court that his wife had filed a withdrawal statement and the matter was resolved. Ms Shameem told the court that despite the withdrawal statement, the Director of Public Prosecutions was proceeding with the charges because it was an alleged case of domestic violence.

Justice Aluthge issued an interim domestic violence restraining order against Vakarisi and said he could file objections if he wished to. The matter was adjourned to July 20.
