Samabula Drug Accused Charged and Remanded
Nitish Singh is charged with two counts of being in possession of illicit drugs following a search conducted in his home in Samabula on July 5
A36-year-old man appeared at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday following a raid which resulted in the alleged seizure of methamphetamine and marijuana. Accused, Nitish Singh, appeared before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa.
Singh is charged with two counts of being in possession of illicit drugs following a search conducted in his home in Samabula on July 5.
The raid resulted in the seizure of two clear zip-lock plastic containing white substances alleged to be methamphetamine and five bullets of dried leaves of marijuana. The accused was arrested by the Samabula Operation Team and the Task Force following information received from members of the public.
Singh has opted for representation from the Legal Aid Commission.
Police prosecutor, Constable Volau Yalimaiwai, served Singh with a full phase of disclosures. He also objected to bail on the grounds that the accused had a similar previous conviction and pending matters before the court of similar offences.
He told the court that Singh allegedly reoffended while he was on bail for one of the pending matters and that there was a likelihood of Singh committing a similar offence if granted bail.
Magistrate Daurewa ordered Singh to be remanded in custody and ordered Singh to file a formal bail application.
He said the accused did indeed have pending matters and ordered Singh to seek Legal Aid Commission’s advice.
The matter has been adjourned for mention to check on legal representation and possible plea on July 22.
