The agriculture industry is what will help Fiji recover after this pandemic, says Rakiraki businessman and cane farmer George Shiu Raj. Mr Raj said though he has a supermarket, nightclub and property for rentals, agriculture for him has been the most reliable sector he can fall back on. “My great grandparents, grandparents and parents were all farmers,” the former politician said. “Though I have several commercial businesses my cane farm is the only sector I can rely on. “It has, many times, saved my other businesses and this is why I believe the agriculture sector is what will save Fiji’s economy.”

Mr Raj recently bought five trucks, a land cruiser and a cane crushing machine, worth $1.3 million.

Mr Raj remains supportive of the sugar industry and is hopeful of helping cane farmers in Rakiraki cart cane to the Rarawai Mill in Ba.
