LAUTOKA

In an effort to equip crew members of the National Fire Authority (NFA) in Lautoka with basic protective resources during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fiji Water handed over 651 care packs on Tuesday.

Fiji Water Foundation manager Marie Smith said this was part of a wider donation including the Fiji Police Force and Land Transport Authority workers, in line with phase two of the Government’s COVID-19 Safe Economic Recovery. Ms Smith said the Police received 4443 care packs while LTA received their 438 care packs last week, with the combined worth of all three donations totalling just under $130,000.

“These care packs will ensure that all our Police personnel, firefighters and LTA officials maintain the highest standards of health and operational readiness, especially during these trying times,” she said.

“Each care pack includes hand sanitizers, a set of face masks made locally by the Sabeto-based women’s non-profit ‘Rise Beyond the Reef ’, and seeds for backyard gardening as well as the highly popular 700ml Fiji Water sports cap bottles.” NFA chief executive officer Puamau Sowane said this was not the first time Fiji Water had aided the authority.

“We need each other and with the essential services that NFA provides, it requires support from all Fijians alike to enable us to carry out our core function of protecting people and properties from the devastating impact of fire,” he said.

“We cannot fight fires alone. It will require an integrated approach and today is a good testimony of working hand in hand for the betterment of all.”

Mr Sowane said Fiji Water and the NFA had a solid relationship in terms of support.

The hand-over was held at the NFA’s Lautoka Station.
