Resort lays off 10 workers in Taveuni

Viani Bay Resort in Taveuni has laid off its 10 workers. Director Jone Waitaiti said the resort was opened for local guests.

Mr Waitaiti said it was a very tough decision to take because the staff had families to look after.

“I thought to take this decision earlier in April, but then I decided to hold it for a while so the staff can work for their family,” he said.

Mr Waitaiti said the laid off workers were now helping him every Friday to plant corals.

“I am also giving diving training to them so they can learn and have diving certificate to work in tourism industries,” he said.
