Sanjay Lakhan has entered a not guilty plea to allegedly striking his wife and stepdaughter with a cane knife.

The 45-year-old delivery man appeared before Justice Vinsent Perera charged with two counts of act with intent to cause grievous harm. The alleged incident happened at their rented house in Kuku, Nausori, on the morning of May 19, 2020.

Lakhan is alleged to have struck the cane knife unlawfully wounding his 45-year-old wife and 14-year-old stepdaughter following a heated argument.

State prosecutor Sheenal Swastika informed the court that in his caution interview statement, the accused admitted that he was at their home on the day of the alleged incident and had an argument.

The court heard that the state would be calling seven witnesses, including the two complainants, and defence would call the accused defence witness in the trial.

The matter was adjourned to August 27 and bail hearing was adjourned to August 3. Lakhan is further remanded.
